OPP Scholars Program

The Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP) Scholars Program at the CHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU-COM) offers a unique opportunity to advance knowledge and skills in Osteopathic Principles and Practice. As an OPP Scholar, CHSU-COM students can enhance their professional development through a wide range of scholarly and clinical activities, and teaching.

Up to four CHSU-COM students will be accepted into this highly competitive program each year and will join their peers as part of a national group of OMM fellows.

Commitment

• An additional year added to medical school that is divided over a 3-year period and interwoven throughout your clinical clerkships.
• Complete OMS-II year, COMLEX/STEP, and EPA 1 with your class.
• OPP Scholars Program Begins in OMS-III year.

Experiences

• Small and large group OMM and interdisciplinary teaching.
• National conference attendance opportunities.
• Osteopathic student liaison at the local, state, and national levels with students, faculty, and communities.
• Individualized sessions with CHSU-COM OPP Department faculty.
• Advanced teaching experiences with students, residents, and clinicians.
• OPP Didactic/Labs, OPP Open Labs, OPP Practicals.
• Leadership growth opportunities through scholarly mentorship.
• Scholarly Activities: Research, OPP Faculty Collaboration, Book Club/Journal Club, 40-hour basic Cranial course certification, Individual Interests.

Additional Opportunities

• Interprofessional education.
• Access to additional Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) resources.
• Osteopathic clinical opportunities available at the Central California Osteopathy clinic.
• Priority given for clinical clerkships during third, fourth, and fifth years.

Requirements

• CHSU-COM OMS-II in good academic and professional standing.
• Strong interest in teaching and learning more OPP/OMM.
• Completed application including CV.
• One-page supplemental interest statement.
• Applications available during the OMS-II year.

Compensation

• Tuition reduction for each of the three years
• Educational funds
• Paid compensation for time worked on campus
