CHSU Medical Students Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in AACOM Feature

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month this September, members of the California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) Board authored an article published by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM).

Titled “Cultura Cura: Why Representation in Osteopathic Medicine Heals,” the article explores the importance of Hispanic and Latino representation in health care and the meaningful role culture plays in the patient experience.

The students reflect on how shared language, cultural understanding, and representation can help build trust between physicians and patients while supporting more compassionate, inclusive, and patient-centered care.

Their reflections support CHSU’s mission to improve health care outcomes in the Central Valley by preparing diverse, compassionate health care professionals who understand the unique cultural needs of the communities they serve.
